What Does Tu Bishvat Mean to You & Your Family ?

We're starting to read some stories about Groundhogs being prepared for their big day on February 2. Will the groundhog see his shadow ? Will it be an early Spring or six more weeks of winter ?

Who knows. But one things is certain. If it Groundhog Day, Tu Bishvat cannot be too far removed.

An Arbor Day once highlighted for contributing to plant trees in Israel has now been transformed into an occasion with different meaning for different folks. Many observe a ritual seder, others focus on the connection between scared text and the environment. Clearly the holiday is evolving.

What does Tu Bishvat mean to you and your family. Does it work for you ? If so what do you do with your family ? Is it about trees ? Is it about more ? We welcome you to share your perspective with us here.

From Boo Boos to Blessings

We recently attended a two part presentation on parenting Jewishly at Temple Israel in Ridgewood (NJ). Based on the bset selling book The Blessing of the Skinned Knee, the group led by Rabbi Gil and Batya Steinlauf examined the challenges of parenting in contemporary times and how Jewish traditions and cultures can inform families - both children and parents.

We found it to be a rich experience to learn and interact. We hope this type of program can be replicated in the future.
